The terrible incident captured in this video occurred in Oakland, but it could very well have been in Weho on Fountain, or Crescent Heights, or Melrose, or Beverly.
Every day we fear that we will hear of someone being hit in one of our many dangerous Weho crosswalks. Thankfully it’s been quite a while since the last pedestrian tragedy in West Hollywood. But we shouldn’t lull ourselves into a false sense of security. So be safe out there.
Drivers: SLOW DOWN! BE ALERT!
Pedestrians: LOOK UP! LOOK ALERT!
BTW- The Public Safety Commission and the Transportation Commission each unanimously voted to form a Pedestrian Safety sub-committee, with the goal of generating ideas to make our pedestrian crossings more safe. City staff stalled the formation of this joint sub-committee for more than a year, and it continues to be stalled somewhere inside City Hall.
WHY HASN’T THE JOINT PEDESTRIAN SAFETY SUB-COMMITTEE BEEN ALLOWED TO FORM? It shouldn’t take a major tragedy to get us to address our safety issues. Shameful!
